Madeira

About this selection

Madeira or Madera is a fortified, very long-lasting wine, originating from Madeira.

Originally made from four types of grapes, each with its own taste characteristic, ranging from sweet to dry. The madeira was named after the grape it was made of: Sercial (dry), Verdelho (medium dry), Boal (medium sweet) and Malvasia (sweet).

Nowadays most madeira is made from one grape (Tinta Negra) that grows better. However, the four types of madeira are produced from that one grape variety. The name is no longer the name of the grape but the taste type (dry to sweet).
