De druiven voor deze wijn zijn afkomstig van één wijngaard, de Vinha do Cabeco Vermelho, Deze heeft een alluviale bodem waarin veel afzetting van de rivier de Douro. De wijngaard heeft een druivenras, de Tinta Roriz.

Quinta do Vale Meão is located in the east of the Douro, towards the Spanish border. The Olazabal family makes both wine and port here. Portuguese grape varieties such as Touriga Franca play an important role in the red wines.
