Sagrantino is een typisch Umbrisch blauw ras. Dit oud ras heeft haar bakermat in de regio rond Montefalco. In de jaren zestig was sagrantino bijna uitgestorven. Sagrantino heft altijd een diep donkerrode kleur en een ferme hoeveelheid tannine. De druiven worden in oktober geoogst en geven een kruidige, complexe wijn die zeer goed kan rijpen.
