Domaine d'Ardhuy, Corgoloin, Côte dOr, Bourgogne

About this selection

The history of Domaine d. Ardhuy goes back to 1947, when young Gabriel d. Ardhuy met Eliane André during the harvest in Burgundy. It's love at first sight. Eliane's father Pierre André is a winegrower and négociant in Burgundy, with vineyards in Alexe-Corton and owner of the Monopole Clos des Langres. Gabriel and Eliane get married, and join Pierre André's company. Slowly but surely the wine company expands with vineyards in among others Puligny-Montrachet, Gevrey-Chambertin, Clos de Vougeot and Corton-Charlemagne. Also the family of Ardhuy gets bigger: no less than 7 daughters are born, all of whom grow up in the company. In 2002 the family decided to focus only on winemaking and winemaking, and the commercial branch of the house was sold. At the beginning of 2003, Carel Voorhuis, son of a lawyer from Maastricht who had previously bought a winery in the Jura, entered as a "régisseur" . And then it goes fast: already in 2004 the Revue de Vins de France Ardhuy chooses as number 3 of producers in the Côte de Beaune and as number 4 in the Côte de Nuits.

The Ardhuy family owns more than forty hectares of vineyard in great plots spread all over Burgundy. In each wine, they try to restore the character of the specific vineyard or wine region as much as possible. Each plot fermenting separately and per year is determined how the wine is composed and what ripening process the wine undergoes. "To make great wine, you need beautiful grapes" is philosophy. The care for the vineyards is central. The winery is completely organic. Since 1981, the house has also owned a company in the Rhône. For both domains, a daughter is designated to direct the company. The wines of dioper Ardhuy are characterized by their refinement and balance, and also not insignificant, by their good value for money.
